LOS ANGELES, Jan. 5, 2005 Robertson Barrett has been named general manager of Los Angeles Times Interactive, responsible for the development and growth of The Times interactive brands and products, including latimes.com.
Barrett has been a new media executive managing online ventures for more than 10 years, including senior positions at Primedia Inc.'s Channel One Network, ABCNEWS.com and TIME Online. He most recently served as vice president, interactive at Actual Reality Pictures since 2003. He will report to Robert E. Bellack, senior vice president and chief financial officer of The Times, effective January 3.
"Rob is a seasoned new media veteran with considerable experience in all aspects of interactive operations, including strategic development, content, sales and marketing," said Bellack. "He brings tremendous experience and talents in leading our interactive team."
At Actual Reality Pictures, a television production company, Barrett led the interactive marketing and new media operations focused on nonfiction programming including projects at Fox, Viacom and ABC. From 2000 to 2002, he was vice president and general manager at The Feedroom, Inc., managing the day-to-day operations for the NBC and Tribune-backed broadband venture that became the number one source for streaming video news on the Web.
From 1998 to 2000, Barrett was vice president and general manager for Primedia Inc.'s Channel One Network, managing Internet operations and new platform development. He also served as managing producer at ABCNEWS.com from 1996 to 1998 and deputy editor at TIME Online from 1994 to 1996. Barrett began his career as a staff writer for The News & Observer in Raleigh, NC.
After earning a B.A. degree in Ancient Greek from Duke University in Durham, NC in 1988, Barrett received an M.A. degree in public policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 1994.
