Shoeless golf is a fun way to raise money for schools

Share

Minimalist golf was at its finest Monday at the Ranch at Laguna Beach in South Laguna.

Many of the 78 golfers played the nine-hole golf course without shoes and only three clubs — all in a quest to raise money for the Laguna Beach Unified School District’s four schools.

By day’s end, participants had contributed nearly $40,000 through green fees, dinner tickets and auction items.

Mark Christy, principal investor in the Ranch, teamed with SchoolPower, a nonprofit that raises money for the district, on the event.

Hobie Surf Shop and the Ranch underwrote costs for renting and staffing the venue, according to a news release.
