Two weeks of spring practice are nearly complete and USC will have three more after spring break.

Freshman receiver Darreus Rogers would welcome more.

Rogers signed a letter of intent with the Trojans in 2012, but the former Carson High star was not cleared by the NCAA Eligibility Center and could not enroll until after the season.

So the 6-foot-2, 195-pound Rogers is making the most of his opportunity.

On Thursday, he caught a long touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Max Browne and also displayed speed and strength on a long gain on a reverse.

Rogers caught 64 passes, 10 for touchdowns, as a high school senior in 2011.

The frustration of not being able to enroll at USC last fall — “People don’t know what I went through,” he said — appears to be behind him.

“People complain about practice,” Rogers said, “but I cherish every moment to just come out here and keep working.”

Quarterbacks Cody Kessler, Max Wittek and Browne all have complimented Rogers.

He also has impressed Coach Lane Kiffin, on and off the field.

“Darreus is doing great in school and he’s really picking everything up from a playbook standpoint,” Kiffin said.

Injury update

Wittek, sidelined because of a knee sprain, said he hoped to participate in drills before Saturday’s scrimmage at the Coliseum.

But Wittek and receiver Marqise Lee, who also is nursing a knee injury, are not expected to return until the Trojans practice March 26.

Meantime, sophomore Kessler had another efficient workout.

“Cody is doing a great job,” Kiffin said.

Kessler, a Bakersfield native, seemed to enjoy the musical choices of the day. USC’s usual rap-heavy practice soundtrack included two country songs.

“I felt like I was at home,” Kessler said.

Tuerk transition

Sophomore Max Tuerk started five games at left tackle and one at guard last season.

But if all goes as planned, he will be the starting center in the fall.

“I really like the position,” he said. “The combination of everything was a lot to take in at the beginning, but I’ve been getting a lot of help from the coaches and quarterbacks.”

Tuerk and the quarterbacks appear to be improving snap exchanges that plagued the offense during last week’s workouts and scrimmage.

Quick hits

Running back Silas Redd suffered a left knee injury and departed practice after getting treatment from trainers. Receiver George Farmer suffered a left shoulder injury and did not complete the workout. Cornerback Kevon Seymour did not practice because of an ankle injury....USC has three full-time assistant coaches on defense and six helping with the offense. In the fall, Kiffin said the staff would include three graduate assistants for defense and one for special teams.
