He’s with Ben

With reference to David Wharton’s Jan. 21 story quoting unnamed sources and criticizing Ben Howland’s coaching, I wish to opine as follows: I feel 100% confident in saying that Ben Howland has forgotten more about basketball and knows more about coaching than anybody, repeat anybody, Wharton might be quoting.

As an easy-to-apply rule of thumb, The Times writers should limit such criticism to basketball people who have rebuilt crumbled programs and taken them to three or more consecutive Final Fours. Anything less is water cooler, coffee break, meaningless conversation.
