Dodgers claim minor league infielder Ryan Jackson from Padres

Maybe someday it will be the answer to a great trivia question: Who was the first player Andrew Friedman added to the Dodgers?

And maybe it will become a deft move further cementing his boy-wonder rep.

Either way, the deed is done, the Dodgers claiming minor league infielder Ryan Jackson from the San Diego Padres and adding him to their 40-man roster.

This is a reach, but possibly a decent one for Friedman. Jackson, 26, appeared in only 11 minor league games last year before having right wrist surgery and missing the rest of the season.

The light-hitting Jackson was originally a fifth-round pick in the 2009 draft out of the University of Miami by the Cardinals. He saw minimal playing time with St. Louis, playing in a total of 20 games in 2012 and 2013. The Cardinals waived him last November and he was claimed by the Astros, who traded him a month later to the Padres for Jesus Guzman.

The right-handed-hitting Jackson is considered a strong fielder. He has mostly been a shortstop, but has spent some time at second and third base. In the minors, he has a career .268 batting average, with .338 on-base and .363 slugging percentages.

The Dodgers can take a flier on Jackson because he still has one option remaining and his addition only brings their 40-man roster to 36 players.
