Highlights of Joe Torre’s three seasons as Dodgers manager

Nov. 1, 2007: Named manager of the Dodgers, signing a three-year, $13-million deal. Torre becomes the eighth manager in Los Angeles Dodgers history.

March 31, 2008: Torre’s first regular-season game with Dodgers, a 5-0 victory over San Francisco.

Sept. 25, 2008: Dodgers clinch the NL West title, giving Torre his 13th consecutive postseason appearance.

Oct. 4, 2008: Dodgers defeat the Chicago Cubs, 3-1, to sweep an NL division series, 3-0. It is the Dodgers’ first playoff series victory since the 1988 World Series.

Oct. 15, 2008: Dodgers lose to Phillies, 5-1, as Philadelphia wins NLCS, 4-1.

Feb. 3, 2009: Torre’s book “The Yankee Years” is released. In it, Torre says Alex Rodriguez was called “A-Fraud” by his teammates and that Torre was betrayed by Brian Cashman, New York’s longtime general manager.

April 13, 2009: Torre manufactures a run during a 3-1 win over Arizona by reminding the umpiring crew of an obscure “four-out” rule, allowing Andre Ethier to score the tying run.

Oct. 4, 2009: Dodgers defeat Colorado, 5-3, to finish the season 95-67, the most wins they have had in a season since 1985.

Oct. 10, 2009: Dodgers defeat St. Louis, 5-1, to sweep an NL division series for the second year in a row and advance to the NLCS. It is the first time since 1977-78 that the Dodgers have played in the NLCS for two consecutive seasons.

Oct. 21, 2009: Dodgers lose to Philadelphia, 10-4, and lose the NLCS, 4-1.

Sept. 9, 2010: Torre all but throws in the towel on the 2010 season, saying, “I wish I could have been more help in finding something that would have made a difference,” after a 4-0 loss to San Diego drops the Dodgers 11 games behind the Padres with 22 to play.

Sept. 17, 2010: Torre announces he will not return as manager next season; Don Mattingly is named his replacement for the 2011 season.
