The Big Ten reprimanded Michigan Coach Jim Harbaugh and fined the school $10,000 on Monday for violating the conference’s sportsmanship policy by criticizing officials after Saturday’s game against Ohio State.

Harbaugh blasted the officiating after the Wolverines’ 30-27 double-overtime loss at Columbus, Ohio, saying that he was “bitterly disappointed” during a lengthy rant.

He complained about an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty he drew in the second half of the game when he tossed headphones and a play card, a pass interference against Michigan that prolonged a key drive for the Buckeyes and a non-call of pass interference against Ohio State. He was most ardent about the spot of a fourth-down play that gave the Buckeyes a first down in overtime when a stop would have won the game for the Wolverines.

Ohio State scored the winning touchdown on the next play.

The loss prevented the Wolverines from earning a spot in the Big Ten championship game and probably ended their hopes of reaching the College Football Playoff.

Grobe not returning to Baylor

Baylor Coach Jim Grobe, who came out of semi-retirement to help the Bears get through a tumultuous season, said he has no plans to return after this season.

Grobe, 64, said he told new Baylor Athletic Director Mack Rhoades early in the season that he didn’t want to be a candidate to be the full-time coach. Grobe said his mind-set had always been to stay for one season.

Baylor is bowl eligible but has lost its last five games after winning its first six.

AD gives Claeys full support

Minnesota Coach Tracy Claeys will return next year, with an 8-4 season earning him the “full support” of Mark Coyle, the school’s new athletic director.

The Golden Gophers went 5-4 in the Big Ten in Claeys’ first full season running the program. Claeys took over midway through last season after Jerry Kill was forced to retire because of health concerns and is 10-8 in 11/2 seasons.

Season ends early once again

Brigham Young quarterback Taysom Hill will sit out the final game of his college career — the Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 21 — after suffering an elbow injury Saturday in the Cougars’ regular-season finale against Utah State.

Hill failed to finish four of his five seasons because of injuries. The 2016 season was a medical redshirt year after he played only one game in 2015.

Two Colorado players suspended

Colorado special teams player Jaleel Awini and backup tight end Christopher Hill have been suspended for the Pac-12 championship game after being arrested in Boulder, Colo., after a fight outside a bar.

Awini and Hill were arrested Sunday morning — hours after the Buffaloes clinched the Pac-12 South title with a victory over Utah.

A police report says that Hill punched Awini in the jaw and an unconscious Awini fell to the ground.

Hill left the scene.

Officers found what appeared to be cocaine in Awini’s wallet. He could face charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Etc.

Wisconsin quarterback Alex Hornibrook was listed as questionable for Saturday’s Big Ten championship game against Penn State after the redshirt freshman suffered a head injury last week against Minnesota.

Ian McCaw, former athletic director at scandal-plagued Baylor, is the new athletic director at Liberty University.

McCaw, who spent 13 years at Baylor, resigned in May after being sanctioned and placed on probation by the university when its athletic program became embroiled in a sexual assault scandal that led to the dismissal of football coach Art Briles and the demotion and eventual departure of university president Ken Starr from the administration.
