Up next for Chivas USA: Tuesday at Portland
What: U.S. Open Cup play-in.
When: 7p.m.
Where: Merlo Field, University of Portland
Update: Taking a brief break from league play, Chivas will be in Oregon for a U.S. Open Cup play-in game against the expansion Timbers. Portland has started slowly in MLS, losing its first two matches, 3-1 at Colorado and 2-0 at Toronto FC. Coach John Spencer’s team has fared better off the field, and is within a few hundred tickets of selling out every home game. Chivas, which plays at Toronto on Saturday, also has lost its first two games. “We need to go out there and show everybody what we’re capable of doing,” said Chivas forward Tristan Bowen. “I just think we haven’t been playing the way we can play. This team has a lot of potential. The way we’re practicing is not the way we’re coming on the field.”
