Oscar liveblog: The calm -- or the storm -- before the storm

Pre-show chatter seems even more pedestrian than usual. Kathy Ireland has a bizarre fondness for the word thank you, almost as fond as Maggie Gyllenhaal seems to be for spray-on tans and stars have penchant for the word fun. But the best moment -- a crowded field whose runner-ups include George Clooney’s dig at English-language abilities of girlfriend Sherri Sheppard using ‘yummy’ and Miley Cyrus talking about all the “different roles” she’s played -- might be when Jake Gyllenhaal touts filmmaking chops of video game movies. “Prince of Persia” for best picture!
