Christopher Plummer was named best supporting actor at the 69th Golden Globes ceremony Sunday for his turn as an elderly man who comes out to his son late in life in writer-director Mike Mills’ film ‘Beginners.’ Although the character, Hal, is diagnosed with terminal cancer, Plummer says Hal is determined to make the most of what’s left of his life. ‘He’s free from all that burden of trying to suppress his homosexuality, and he’s also in love,’ Plummer told The Envelope last year. ‘I think that’s why the film has the lightness of tone that it does — there’s not an ounce of self-pity in it.’
Plummer was previously nominated for a Golden Globe for his starring role in 2009’s ‘The Last Station’ and for his work on television in 2000’s ‘American Tragedy.’
