UC Merced continues to grow since debuting in 2005 with only 875 students.

‘There were lots of times people said this day would never come, but it has and we’re just very glad it’s here,’ said founding UC Merced Chancellor Carol Tomlinson-Keasey when the UC’s newest campus opened. She died Saturday from complications of breast cancer.

According to an Oct. 6 story in the Merced Sun-Star, there are 3,414 students at Merced, an increase from 2,718 the previous fall. UC Merced hopes to have 5,000 students by 2013.
