Welcome to a regular feature in which All The Rage casts a bemused -- and often disgusted -- eye at the follies of fashion.

Denim designer Earnest Sewn has partnered with jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels to create a pair of jeans worth $10,000.These jeans come with Van Cleef’s signature Alhambra clover chains. The buttons and rivets are also signature accents.

Here’s the best part: It’s a limited-edition run of only 20 pairs of jeans and they are being auctioned off at Christie’s. Well, of course it’s a ‘limited edition’ -- how many wackos would actually spend that much money on a pair of jeans? When it comes to fashion, the term ‘limited edition’ often translates to ‘limited to imbeciles.’

The fact that these jeans are selling at Christie’s is equally ludicrous. According to their website, the auction house has sold historical pieces like a formal court robe from the Qing Dynasty for $55,000. (Personally, I would opt to spend that on 100,000 Twix bars.) But these jeans have no ornate stitching or fascinating provenance. Someone just attached a pricey chain to the belt loop and pocket. I would rather see Christie’s sell the first pair of Jordache jeans ever BeDazzled in 1974.

Sometimes, the fashion industry needs a glass of Champagne thrown in its face.
