NAACP Image Awards love Tyler Perry

The NAACP Image Awards’ love for writer-director-producer-star Tyler Perry continues to flourish. Perry, his movies and TV series garnered 19 nominations Wednesday morning for the 42nd annual awards.

Two of his features, ‘For Colored Girls’ and ‘Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too?’ were nominated for best film of 2010.

Janet Jackson was nominated for best actress and Jill Scott for supporting actress for ‘Why Did I Get Married Too?’ Michael Ealy for supporting actor and Anika Noni Rose, Kimberly Elise, Phylicia Rashad and Whoopi Goldberg for supporting actress in ‘For Colored Girls.’

Perry, who won the NAACP Chairman’s Award last year, was also nominated for his screenplay for ‘Why Did I Get Married Too?’ and for best director for ‘For Colored Girls.’

On the TV front, ‘Tyler Perry’s House of Payne’ was nominated for best comedy series, with David Mann being nominated for best actor in a comedy series for ‘Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns’ and LaVan Davis nominated in the same category for ‘Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.’

Cassi Davis was nominated for best actress in a comedy series for ‘House of Payne,’ with Lamman Rucker (‘Meet the Browns’) and Lance Gross (‘House of Payne’) earning nominations for supporting actor. And on the supporting actress front, Keshia Knight Pulliam was nominated for supporting actress for ‘House of Payne.’ And last but not least, Myra J. was nominated for writing in a comedy series for the ‘Meet the Racist’ episode of ‘House of Payne.’

Competing with the two Perry features for best film are ‘Just Wright,’ ‘The Book of Eli’ and ‘The Kids Are All Right.’

Best actor nominees are Anthony Mackie for ‘Night Catches Us,’ Common for ‘Just Wright,’ Denzel Washington for ‘The Book of Eli,’ Jaden Smith for ‘The Karate Kid’ and Morgan Freeman for ‘Red.’

Joining Jackson in the best actress category are Halle Berry for ‘Frankie & Alice,’ Kerry Washington for ‘Night Catches Us,’ Queen Latifah for ‘Just Wright’ and Zoe Saldana for ‘The Losers.’

Besides Ealy, supporting actor contenders are Don Cheadle for ‘Brooklyn’s Finest,’ Idris Elba for ‘Takers,’ Justin Timberlake for ‘The Social Network’ and Samuel L. Jackson for ‘Mother and Child.’

Nominees for best independent motion picture are ‘Conviction,’ ‘Frankie & Alice,’ ‘La Mission,’ ‘Mother and Child’ and ‘Night Catches Us.’ Nominated for foreign motion picture are ‘A Barefoot Dream,’ ‘Biutiful,’ ‘Four Lions,’ ‘Mother’ and ‘Outside the Law.’

Besides Perry, feature writing nominees are Mary King, Anna Waterhouse, Joe Shrapnel, Marko King, Jonathan Watters and Cheryl Edwards -- all for ‘Frankie & Alice’ -- Michael C. Martin for ‘Brooklyn’s Finest,’ Michael Elliot for ‘Just Wright’ and Rodrigo García for ‘Mother and Child.’

Rounding out the feature directing category are Geoffrey Sax for ‘Frankie & Alice,’ George Tillman Jr. for ‘Faster,’ Tanya Hamilton for ‘Night Catches Us’ and the Hughes brothers for ‘The Book of Eli.’

Joining ‘House of Payne’ in the best comedy series category are ’30 Rock,’ ‘Are We There Yet?’ ‘Glee’ and ‘Modern Family.’ Best drama series nominees are ‘Detroit 1-8-7,’ ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ HawthoRNe,’ ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ and ‘Treme.’

The awards will be handed out March 4 and telecast on Fox.
