A mandatory evacuation has been ordered for San Miguel Ranch in northern Chula Vista near Palos as flames move southward, said Chula Vista Fire Chief Doug Perry.

About 1,000 to 1,200 homes are affected.

“A lot of this really depends on what the winds do today,” Perry said. “If the winds stay calm, we should be OK.”

If not, the fire could move west and farther south to the town of Bonita in two to four hours, he said.
