Sports and entertainment juggernaut AEG has hired Bryan Perez to fill a newly created role as president of digital, ticketing and media.
Perez’s last job was as the general manager of NBA Digital, a joint venture between Time Warner’s Turner Sports and the NBA that serves up online content through a number of sites, including NBA TV.
His appointment at AEG suggests that the Los Angeles company may be making progress on its plans to launch an online TV network and cable channel with Ryan Seacrest and Creative Artists Agency. The channel would focus on pop culture and music, featuring live shows from AEG’s venues, including Staples Center.
AEG declined to comment on its plans, which were first outlined last October by the Hollywood Reporter. In its statement announcing Perez’s appointment, the company said he will work with Charles Hirschhorn, president of ‘AXS TV, AEG’s new live entertainment cable network now in development.’
Perez, who also worked at Live Nation Entertainment as head of the Beverly Hills company’s digital division, will also team up with Fred Rosen to launch a ticketing service that would compete with Live Nation’s Ticketmaster, a company Rosen himself helped build in the 1980s.
