David Lynch to exhibit artwork for latest Danger Mouse album

Few Hollywood directors crisscross the line between movies and visual art as regularly as David Lynch. (Was it just us or did ‘Inland Empire’ deserve to be shown in a gallery?) The filmmaker has exhibited his paintings and strange photographs in cities all over the world, including Paris, Moscow and most recently at Art Basel Miami Beach.

For his latest project, the famously enigmatic cineaste will be showing original artwork he created for the upcoming album ‘Dark Night of the Soul,’ featuring music by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse.

The exhibition, opening May 30 at Michael Kohn Gallery in Los Angeles, will consist of a two-room installation designed by Lynch and Danger Mouse that will allow visitors to experience the artwork and music at the same time.

Lynch is planning to mount some 50 of the photographs he created for the album on aluminum panels positioned around the gallery. Selections from the album (which will be released this summer) will play throughout the installation.

The director’s photographs will also be published in a book to be released along with the album. If his photos are anything like his movies, we can expect a lot of mysterious blonds, red curtains, eccentric dwarfs and references to small-town American life.
