BBC’s Last Night of the Proms coming to Hollywood’s Mann Chinese

It’s one of classical music’s biggest nights of the year. And for the first time, audiences around the world will be able to watch from their local movie theaters.

BBC’s Last Night of the Proms concert will take place at Royal Albert Hall in London on Sept. 12. In a new initiative, the evening-long performance is being broadcast to local theaters so fans can take in the music and ambiance of the high-formal occasion.

L.A. audiences will be able to watch the event at the Mann Chinese 6 in Hollywood. The screening will take place at 3 p.m. on Sept.12 and will run for about three hours, including an intermission. Tickets will be $20.

This marks the first time the concert will be shown in movie theaters around the world. The satellite broadcast will reach audiences throughout Europe, North America and parts of Asia.

The Proms is a two-month festival of classical music held in London each year and features the biggest names in the classical world.

The Last Night of the Proms will cap off the festival with a concert featuring 15 pieces performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra led by conductor David Robertson.

Currently scheduled for the concert are pieces by Henry Purcell, Oliver Knussen, Gustav Mahler, Joseph Haydn, Heitor Villa-Lobos and more. The concert will conclude with performances of Edward Elgar’s ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ and the British national anthem.
