Newcomer and ‘Dreamgirl’ set as leads in “Bring It On’

A 20-year-old University of Michigan student and a onetime ‘Dreamgirl’ have been cast in the roles of Campbell and Danielle, the battling head cheerleaders of the musical ‘Bring It On,’ which opens its national tour at the Ahmanson Theatre Nov. 11.

Taylor Louderman caught the eye of casting agent Rachel Hoffman of Telsey + Company, who also teaches at Michigan. Hoffman brought her to the attention of ‘Bring it On’s’ director and choreographer, Andy Blankenbuehler.

Adrienne Warren, last seen as Lorrell in the production of ‘Dreamgirls’ that played the Ahmanson last year, originated the role of Danielle in a production of the musical at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta. Her résumé also includes being the first African American to play Little Orphan Annie in ‘Annie’ at a regional theatre.

The 2000 movie ‘Bring it On’ starred Kirsten Dunst and Gabrielle Union.

Louderman and Warren join a show with the Tony-award heavy creative team of libretto writer Jeff Whitty (‘Avenue Q’), composers Lin Manuel- Miranda (‘In the Heights’) and Tom Kitt (‘Next to Normal’), lyricist Amanda Green (‘High Fidelity’) and Blankenbuehler (‘In the Heights’).
