In December we reported that Mitchell Frank and Jeff Ellermeyer’s cozy beer bar El Prado had just received its wine license. We also said that it would start serving wine in the ‘very near future.’ Until now, that future was elusive: We came, we looked, we saw no wine. A week or so back, we came and we saw wine glasses, but no wine. (What a tease!) Now, after pestering the bartender to no end, we have confirmed that El Prado will start serving wine on Tuesday, Feb. 10. What kind of wine? ‘You’ll just have to come in and find out,’ we were told. So, we’ll be there, and if there’s no wine you’ll recognize us because we’ll be crying in our St. Bernardus Ale. 1805 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, no phone.
Stories, Echo Park’s delightful new coffee shop and bookstore, is launching a bimonthly music and story hour, when coffee drinks and baked goods are served at a discount. The event takes place on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Stories’ menu has expanded recently to include more tasty sandwiches and fresh soup too, so you don’t have to stick to the baked stuff. 1716 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, (213) 413-3733.
Updated 2:16 p.m., Mon. Feb. 2, This post previously said that El Prado was Mitchell Frank’s bar. Frank is actually a co-owner of El Prado. His partner is Jeff Ellermeyer.
