Governor Schwarzenegger vows to fight for climate controls

OK, it was only a letter from the action-hero-turned-California governor. But Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger -- no lightweight in Republican circles -- made it clear that he was picking sides in next week’s Senate debate over legislation to tackle the buildup of greenhouse gasses warming the planet.

In a letter to Sens. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) and John Warner (R-Va.), the principal co-authors of the Climate Security Act, the governor told them they could count on him as a beefy backup.

‘As you are well aware, California is dedicated to its comprehensive climate policy program,’ Schwarzenegger wrote today. ‘I remain committed to fighting alongside you to preserve and strengthen key principles in this bill that I believe are essential for any federal climate legislation...’
