San Luis Obispo solar project to start construction next year

This time next year, expect to see a large solar installation rising in San Luis Obispo, courtesy of NRG Solar and SunPower Corp.
The 250-megawatt California Valley Solar Ranch will start producing enough power for 100,000 homes by 2013, the companies said. NRG Solar is pouring $450 million into the photovoltaic project while also aiming for a federal loan guarantee.
The entire installation, including land set aside for conservation purposes, is expected to take up 4,700 acres, the companies said.
