How green is that lawn? A look at the garden surrounding the new LAPD building in downtown

The gardens across from City Hall (and the Los Angeles Times building) at the new headquarters of the Police Department are (finally) nearing completion. For those of us who have wondered what is going on behind the chain link fence, there is a happy surprise: a lawn, and nearly an acre of it! That’s good news for office workers (like us) who are already envisioning summertime lunch picnics, but cause for concern for conservationists (like us) who wonder how the maintenance of this lawn jibes with new drought ordinances.

The designers claim it is eco-friendly. Home contributor Emily Green investigates.
