The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals estimates that 1 million dogs and cats are in danger of becoming homeless because of the economic crisis. Juliet, pictured above with new mom Cristi Bennett, was one of the lucky ones but she still had her share of tragedy. When her previous owners found they could no longer afford to keep her, she sat in a pound for five months before being rescued by Bennett.
