No, they are not really made from old-school longboards, but these surf-inspired plant-them-in-the-sand chairs -- which have been popping up in front of vintage stores from Silver Lake to Santa Monica -- offer a new way for wave watchers to kick back on the beach or in the backyard.

According to Mark F. Courtney of the antiques and vintage furniture shop Courtney’s, they were made from weather-resistant teak as a promotion for a low-calorie lager back in the days when neon-colored zinc oxide was all the rage. Courtney has a stash of 10, each priced at $175. For the cost of sandpaper and sealer and a few minutes work, you can remove that We-Love-the-’80s logo and tell friends you shaped it yourself.
