Planning to hit Dwell on Design or CA Boom to see the future of architecture and interiors this weekend? There is a different opportunity Saturday: An immersion course in California design history.

In connection with the ongoing exhibition ‘Masters of Midcentury Modernism: Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman,’ the Mingei International Museum in San Diego is hosting a five-hour symposium, ‘Perspectives on Midcentury California Design.’Speakers include Catherine Bailey and Robin Petravic of Heath Ceramics and Reform Gallery owner Gerard O’Brien, who will present Julius Shulman photographs of Reform’s 2005 show, ‘California Design, 1956-1976.’

The program begins at 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for students and MIngei members and $35 for nonmembers. Mingei International Museum, 1439 El Prado, San Diego; (619) 239-0003
