In 2006 designer Meg Mateo Ilasco started a biannual sale of overstocked goods and samples as a way for independent manufacturers and retailers to survive. The Modern Economy sale began with just 20 designers and now features more than 50 including Sara Paloma, Boodalee and Thomas Paul.

Now through 9 a.m. Friday, look for great deals -- as much as 80% off on selected items including, above from left: Simrin Surya table runner featuring metallic inks, embroidery and hand-screen printing (regularly $48, now $18); the Om Home pouf, which comes unstuffed and is made from 100% hand-spun cotton khadi (regularly $100, now $60); rug designer Emma Gardner’s 6-by-9-foot Flowers on Water hand-tufted wool carpet (regularly $2,600, now $1,782) and Ferm Living Berry Black wallpaper (regularly $115 per roll, now $62.50).

All sales are final, and there are no returns or exchanges. But you’ll find good deals, including some in an ‘Under $10’ section.
