The winter series of Thursday Garden Talks With Lili Singer kicks off with consultant Bob Galbreath’s lecture on efficient irrigation in urban landscapes. 9:30 a.m. to noon. Jan. 9: Jill Morganelli, curator of the Los Angeles County Arboretum Rose Garden, leads a hands-on workshop about rose pruning and rose care. Jan. 9: Pat McNelly, principal staff analyst with the Orange County Sanitation District, hosts a class on worm composting from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The class is free to residents of Brea, Santa Ana, Orange, Irvine and Buena Park with proof of residency. For others, the cost is $5 to $7. Residents of Brea, Santa Ana, Orange and Irvine not Buena Park will receive vouchers for discount composting bins. Jan. 9: Heath Ceramics hosts an opening reception for Karen Kimmel and First Street Gallery, a private non-profit art program, serving adults with developmental disabilities. One hundred percent of the money from the sale of the ceramic sculptures, succulent gardens, planters (shown right) and medallions will benefit First Street Gallery.
