L.A. Conservancy hosts benefit at Julius Shulman’s house Saturday; iconic Stahl home also on tour

Architectural photographer Julius Shulman captured Southern California’s modernist movement in his images of homes designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Richard Neutra, John Lautner and Frank Gehry, among others. Shulman’s own home was a steel-and-glass design by Raphael Soriano (currently for sale for $2,495,000). You can see it for yourself this Saturday, when the Los Angeles Conservancy’s Modern Committee hosts a cocktail party and tour.

Ticketed guests will be picked up at the Egyptian Theatre and taken to the house in the Hollywood Hills by motor coach. The benefit will include cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at sunset, a silent auction, guest speakers and visit to the nearby Stahl house -- one of L.A.’s most iconic homes, thanks to Shulman’s photos of the Pierre Koenig project, pictured here. The bus will leave from the Egyptian Theatre at 5 p.m. Tickets are $125 and include admission to a 7:30 p.m. Wednesday screening of the documentary ‘Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman’ at the Egyptian, 6712 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood.
