A San Diego County high school teacher pleaded guilty Thursday to having sex with a former 17-year-old student.
Kelly McKenzy Watson, 34, met the teen while he was student in her class at New Haven residential school in Vista, according to a report on Fox 5 San Diego. The school works with troubled and at-risk teens.
The report quoted San Diego police who said Watson taught the boy from September 2010 to August 2011.
Watson is free on $45,000 bail. She is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 6 and faces up to three years in state prison.
Watson’s attorney described her as a highly respected special education teacher who has been in the profession for the last seven years.
