1 arrested, 1 sought in July 4 killing of Unique Russell

A man suspected of gunning down a 14-year-old girl outside a Fourth of July barbecue in South L.A. was arrested Friday morning, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials said.
Detectives took Michael Station, 19, of Compton into custody in connection with the shooting death of Unique Russell outside a row of duplexes on West 97th Street on the holiday. She was standing there with family and friends when two men approached the crowd, opened fire and hit three people shortly after 10 p.m.
Unique, a Washington Preparatory High School student, died later at a hospital. Her 12-year-old cousin and a 21-year-old man were wounded in the shooting.
The second suspect remains at large. Sheriff Lee Baca, homicide investigators and family members planned to hold a news conference Friday at the shooting site to ask for the public’s help in tracking down the man.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is offering a $10,000 dollar reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
