Bluebell, a 1-year-old female pit bull, was in bad shape when she arrived at a Downey shelter in early December.

Her owner dragged her to the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority shelter behind a truck; in the process, Bluebell (then named Prada) became badly bloodied. ‘It appears Prada lost consciousness from pain or being choked by the collar,’ Aaron Reyes of SEAACA said of her injuries.

The owner told shelter staff that she was bringing Bluebell to the shelter to be euthanized because of a skin condition. (She was cited for illegally transporting an animal in the back of a vehicle, a misdemeanor, and felony animal cruelty.)

After extensive veterinary care, TLC and generous donations of toys, blankets and funds for her treatment, Bluebell has recovered from her injuries, and her skin ailment is ‘almost completely healed,’ according to Reyes. Even better news for Bluebell: She’s ready for a new home.

Shelter staff plan to place Bluebell in a home where she’ll be the only dog. ‘She has shown a tendency to become agitated in the presence of other animals, so we’re going to be particular with her new owner and living arrangements,’ Reyes explained.
