Cameron Douglas, actor Michael Douglas’ oldest child, was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of distributing crystal meth and possessing heroin.

U.S. District Judge Richard Berman sentenced the younger Douglas to 60 months with credit for time served, the New York Daily News reports. Berman said he was not obliged to follow federal sentencing guidelines, according to the New York Times, and federal prosecutors didn’t challenge his decision.

Family members had appealed to the court for leniency; the judge said too many of of the missives painted Cameron as a victim, and suggested the defendent ‘get over that idea.’
