Tony Parker filed for divorce from Eva Longoria in Texas on Friday, two days after she filed for divorce from him in California.
Texas divorce laws differ from those in California in a couple of big ways: One, in Texas, a person can go from filing to done in 60 days on an uncontested divorce, as spotlighted by Sandra Bullock‘s ninja divorce from Jesse James earlier this year. Parker’s Texas divorce documents were obtained by TMZ.
Also, Texas has no allowance for alimony, though it does allow for ‘maintenance’ in marriages of longer than 10 years, whereas in California spousal support is at the court’s discretion, and the court must consider factors including each party’s ability to earn after the split, the duration of the marriage and ‘The needs of each party based on the standard of living established during the marriage.’
The San Antonio Spurs star’s divorce filing did not mention a prenup, TMZ said. The two were married in July 2007.
Also over the weekend, unnamed friends of the couple told Popeater that the ‘Desperate Housewives’ actress contributed to the demise of the relationship as well, staying in L.A. for longer stretches instead of returning to Texas. When Parker would see pictures of his wife out at L.A.-area clubs, one friend said, ‘That’s when he knew he couldn’t compete.’
Parker, who said Thursday he had not filed for divorce in Texas or hired a divorce attorney in Texas or California, reportedly admitted sending flirty text messages to another woman, but said there had been no sex involved in the relationship.
