Amber Portwood, the ‘Teen Mom’ arrested Monday in Indiana and charged with three felonies and then some, was out on bail Tuesday after spending 24 hours in jail on charges of allegedly slapping and choking her baby daddy in front of their 2-year-old daughter.
Portwood faces two counts of felony domestic battery and one count of felony neglect of a dependent plus a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery, related to three incidents over more than a year. The court automatically entered a not-guilty plea on her behalf.
Police began investigating after a September ‘Teen Mom’ episode showed her slapping, choking and kicking ex-fiance Gary Shirley, 24.
The fights were captured on video for the MTV reality show, with outtakes reportedly showing daughter Leah, then 1, in the room witnessing the violence — hence the neglect charge. Dozens of viewers called the state child-abuse hotline after the show aired, according to an Indiana Department of Child Services spokeswoman.
‘It’s my understanding that Leah will be placed back with her,’ Portwood’s attorney, Robert Schembs, told People on Tuesday, adding that his client and Shirley were still ‘on good terms,’ though she’s not allowed to have contact with him anymore.
