Lindsay Lohan entered a not guilty plea, was taken into custody and then was bailed out Wednesday on a felony grand theft charge related to a $2,500 necklace taken from a Venice boutique.
Lohan was allowed to surrender at the courthouse and was released out a back door, away from the crush of cameras, after posting bail. She was taken into custody away from cameras as well.
‘You’re no different than anyone else, so please don’t push your luck,’ Judge Keith Schwartz said at the end of the hearing, according to L.A. Now. ‘If you violate the law, I will remand you and set no bail, and your attorney won’t be successful this time.’
Bail was set at $20,000 in the theft case, with another $20,000 tacked on for possibly violating probation related to her 2007 DUI charges. Lohan gave a DNA sample and was released about an hour and a half after the proceedings at the L.A. Airport Courthouse, where she was again represented by Shawn Chapman Holley. Danette Meyers, who is handling Lohan’s DUI case, was again the prosecutor.
On Wednesday afternoon, Dr. Drew Pinsky said on Twitter that he was ‘mortified how @Lindsaylohan is getting attacked when she is so fragile and just establishing her sobriety. Not at all what she needs.’ He added that she was ‘facing the consequences appropriately.’ Lohan tweeted her thanks for his support, saying she appreciated it.
Pinsky stirred things up in the Lohan mess a while back when he suggested that if were Michael Lohan, he might set his daughter up for a drug arrest in order to get her the help she needed. Evidence in the case includes surveillance footage from the jewelry store as well as paparazzi pictures taken after the piece went missing.
Lohan is also still under investigation for an alleged shoving incident reported near the tail end of her stay at the Betty Ford Clinic in Rancho Mirage.
