Whitney Houston has successfully made it to Detroit and ‘Sparkle’ filming. But a funny thing happened on the way to her comeback.
There was that reported dust-up with a Delta Air Lines crew when Houston, on her way from Atlanta to Detroit, allegedly refused to fasten her seat belt. TMZ says a crew member finally did it for her.
Don’t worry — Houston didn’t get escorted off the flight, a la Leisha Hailey and her girlfriend. Nor did she pull a Depardieu. But there’s no word on whether she demanded a blanket or help in putting on her in-flight-movie headset.
Never you mind, Whitney, says Detroit. The city is happy about the filming of the movie, according to the Free Press, and isn’t letting that piffle dim the excitement.
Houston is said to have a supporting role in ‘Sparkle,’ playing a gospel singer, and may perform two songs.
The paper quotes producer Debra Martin Chase as saying Detroit was always the leading contender for filming of the remake of a 1976 movie about a musical sister act: ‘This is the only place we ever thought about shooting, and it worked.’
Directing the film is Salim Akil. Stars include Mike Epps, Derek Luke and Omari Hardwick, and the film will also feature Grammy winner Cee-Lo Green.
Spiffy. But before Houston gets on a plane for the flight home, she must remember a few rules, as supplied by the Los Angeles Times’ Travel staff. And it all boils down to: Don’t mess with those in-flight crew. Do. Not.
Everyone, celebrity or plebe, who might be unaware of the potential consequences of their behavior aboard a plane, consider this: It’s illegal to interfere with the duties of an in-flight crew member. Federal law. And no amount of outraged tweeting will change that.
