The National Association of Realtors is complaining about Sunday night’s ’60 Minutes’ story about the ‘sacrosanct 6% Realtors’ commission, saying there is no standard commission, and that ‘all commissions are negotiable.’

Calling the ’60 Minutes’ report ‘one-sided journalism’ full of ‘egregious errors.’ NAR complains ’60 Minutes’ never bothered to interview anyone from the group on camera, even though ‘NAR twice offered and prepared association spokespersons for interviews.’ CBS instead interviewed a real live Realtor.

In listing ‘errors’ in the ’60 Minutes’ story, the NAR argues that there is no such thing as a standard 6% commission -- this could come as a surprise to people who have recently paid that amount.

From the NAR’s critique of the ’60 Minutes’ story:

‘Error: The 6 percent commission is ‘sacrosanct.’
Fact: All commissions are negotiable. The average commission rate is not 6 percent, but 5.1 percent, according to Real Trends.’
