‘Abby Who?’
‘Abby Normal.’

Remember the scene in ‘Young Frankenstein’ when the mad scientist, Gene Wilder, learns he has put an abnormal brain into the monster? You can read it below, but first, we have a point to make: There are still those who believe what’s happening in the housing market is NOT abnormal. That is, it’s normal.

From Sunday’s Los Angeles Times: ‘It’s nothing new. We have a cycle like this every eight or 10 years.’ -- San Fernando Valley real estate agent Frank Sirota.

Now, from UCLA economist David Shulman, interviewed today by Inman News: The current real estate downturn is ‘completely different from anything we’ve previously experienced.... ‘We’ve never had the run-up in house prices we saw between 2000 and 2005.’

There you have it. Normal vs. Abby Normal.

Read the classic ‘Abby Normal’ scene from ‘Young Frankenstein’ below.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Igor, would you mind telling me whose brain I did put in?
Igor: And you won’t be angry?
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: I will NOT be angry.
Igor: Abby someone.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Abby someone. Abby who?
Igor: Abby Normal.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Abby Normal?
Igor: I’m almost sure that was the name.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Are you saying that I put an abnormal brain into a seven and a half foot long, fifty-four inch wide GORILLA?
[shakes and grabs him]
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: IS THAT WHAT YOU’RE TELLING ME?
