And all the awards go to... the Mazda CX-9

Luckily for the 2008 Mazda CX-9, it has plenty of interior space. Otherwise, it would have a lot of trouble taking home all the awards it’s been given. It seems that anyone who’s anyone is lining up to pin a ribbon on this sport utility-family car-crossover.

Two buff books, Motor Trend and Car and Driver, have dubbed it 2008 SUV of the year and one of the five best trucks for 2008, respectively, while Automobile magazine put the CX-9 among its all-stars for this year. Kelley Blue Book calls it the best new family vehicle. Cars.com has awarded the CX-9 two accolades: best new car for large families and family car of the year.

Throw in other ‘best in class,’ ‘most wanted,’ ‘best buy’ and 2008 North American ‘truck of the year’ titles, and it’s pretty clear what the story is: The CX-9 has become one of the most honored vehicles currently in production.

And that’s not all. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gives it a five-star score for front and side impacts, while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety bestows its highest rating for front and side crash protection. The CX-9 seats up to seven and starts at $29,400.
