Andrea Pininfarina died in a road accident on Thursday, Aug. 7, just after 8 a.m. local time in Italy. The chief executive of the firm that bears his family name was the son of Sergio Pininfarina and grandson of Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina, and therefore part of a dynasty that has designed some of the most beautiful cars the world has ever seen.
Most Ferraris have been penned by the Pininfarina studio, including modern cars such as the 599 GTB Fiorano and the upcoming California. The Maserati Gran Turismo and Quattroporte are also Pininfarina designs.
Andrea Pininfarina, 51 and the father of three, was riding his Vespa scooter from his home in a wealthy suburb of Turin to his office when he was hit by a car. Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo said: ‘I have lost a great friend and outstanding business partner.’
