Falling hazards aren’t a feature most people look for when buying outdoor play sets with swinging seats; which is why about 1,800 Outdoor Playset Gliders were recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission today.

A retaining ring on the glider seats, built in China and distributed by Backyard Play Systems, can break away from the play set, causing a falling hazard, the commission said in a recall statement.

No reports of children falling have been received, but the Monroe, Mich., company, did receive one report of a detached retaining ring, the statement said.

The glider seats were sold under the brand names Heartland Premium Play Systems, Yardline Play Systems and Backyard Play Systems, the commission said.

The seats were sold at Backyard Buildings & More and Lowe’s stores nationwide and at www.costco.com, www.bettymills.com, and www.backyardbuildings.com from February 2008 to May 2009 for about $100, the statement said.

Owners should stop using the glider seats immediately, the statement said.

Backyard Play Systems is notifying customers directly and offering a free repair kit, which includes replacement hardware and instructions, the commission said.

But consumers can also contact the company directly for their free repair kit at (866) 890-2211 or by email at customerservice@backyard-play.com.
