Vintage International Inc., based in Hacienda Heights, is recalling about 2,300 National and Sanyo hand-held hair dryers because the products don’t have immersion protection devices to prevent electrocution if the dryers fall into water. Industry safety standards require that all electric hand-held hair dryers be equipped with such devices.

The hair dryers, which were made in Thailand, were sold at various stores in the Los Angeles area from January 2006 to August 2008 for $20 to $40, Vintage International and the Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a joint statement. No injuries have been reported, the statement said.

Consumers should stop using the recalled hair dryers immediately and return them to the store where they were purchased for a refund or replacement.

The hair dryers are made of plastic and chrome with a fold-up handle. They came in blue, pink, white and black. To identify whether your dryer is among those being recalled, look for model numbers EH-5202, EH-5215, EH-5216, EH-7911, EH-7912, or EH-7913 and “National” or “Sanyo” on the hair dryer’s nozzle or handle.

For more information, contact Vintage International at (888) 711-4656 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. (Pacific time) Monday through Friday.
