Honda to recall 143,100 Fit cars in U.S.

American Honda Motor Co. will recall about 143,100 Fit cars from the 2007 and 2008 model years to fix a problem with the headlights.
The cars are prone to a wiring problem in which the connectors for the low-beam circuit become worn after repeated use. That causes corrosion and overheating, and finally the low-beam headlights go out. It doesn’t affect the high-beam headlights, or ‘brights.’ Honda said it knew of no accidents or injuries caused by the headlight failure on the small compact car. The recall includes more than 1.3 million vehicles worldwide, with the majority in Japan.
U.S. owners of the cars will receive notification to bring the vehicle to a Honda dealer for inspection. If corrosion is spotted, the dealer will replace parts to prevent potential headlight failures. Drivers of the vehicles should get a letter from Honda starting in January. Honda owners who have questions or concerns about the recall also can go to Recalls.Honda.com or call (800) 999-1009, and select option 4.
