White House holidays: sushi and jazz

The jumpin’ jazz band in the East Room of the White House last night was new: It wasn’t your father’s Marine Band, which has been known to serenade guests with traditional tunes at the annual holiday reception for the media.

President Obama’s first ‘holiday’ party -- it is Hanukkah, after all, and Christmas cannot be far behind -- featured the Eli Yamin Quintet on the south side of the East Room.

And some kickin’ sushi.

And some high-profile security, in the wake of the State Dinner gate-crashing.
