The president and first lady spent about half an hour this afternoon shaking hands with Marines and their families at the Marine Corps base near the Kailua vacation home where they are spending the holidays.

The motorcade arrived at the Marines’ mess hall about 3:43 p.m. On the way, it passed a few people taking pictures, as well as two children’s bicycles, one pink and one blue and green. The bikes had handwritten signs saying Malia and Sasha could use them while they were in Hawaii.

The president greeting the Marines with ‘Hi, guys, merry Christmas.’ He and the first lady moved from table to table, shaking hands, asking Marines where they were from, and thanking service members for being there.

‘I’m proud of you guys,’ the president said.
