Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg among passengers evacuated from plane

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, 78, had to slide down a plane’s emergency slide during an evacuation of a flight at Washington’s Dulles International Airport on Wednesday, a spokeswoman for the high court said. The justice was uninjured in the evacuation.

Ginsburg was en route to San Francisco for a speaking engagement at a law school when her flight had problems, said the spokeswoman, who asked not to be named.

The justice, along with about 178 other passengers, was forced to leave by emergency chute. One injury was reported.

At 78, Ginsburg, is the nation’s oldest justice. She has had surgery and chemotherapy for cancer.

“She’s fine,” the court spokeswoman said in a telephone interview.

There was no other information about whether Ginsburg would take another flight west.

The incident took place about 1 p.m. Eastern time as the United Airlines flight was getting ready to taxi for takeoff.
