BEIJING -- You read much of this here yesterday, but here are the ‘official’’ facts on Tyson Gay, courtesy of a statement I received Tuesday morning from his management company, Global Athletics:

‘After a gradual return to high-level training, Tyson was joined on July 22 at his training base in Munich by co-coach Jon Drummond. Since arriving in Munich on July 11, Tyson had been undergoing treatment by orthopedic specialist Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfart, and that treatment continued during his training until his departure for Beijing on August 4 (Monday). Although originally scheduled to fly to Dalian, Tyson now plans to attend the Opening Ceremonies, and so has decided to remain in Beijing after his arrival. Training and treatment have both been progressing very well. `When I step on the line in Beijing, don’t worry. I’ll be ready to go,’ said Tyson before leaving Munich. ‘’

The U.S. track team has a training base in Dalian, about 300 miles from Beijing.

Gay has not competed since pulling up with leg cramps and a hamstring strain in the quarterfinals of the 200 meters at the U.S. Olympic trials. He earlier had won the 100.

The first round of the Olympic 100 meters is Friday, Aug. 15, with the final the next day.
