Costume deduction, please

The final pair of a very long night of skating are the defending world champions from Germany, Aliona Savchenko (she was born in Kiev, Ukraine) and Robin Szolkowy. They are skating to the soundtrack from the movie ‘Lost in Space’ and Savchenko is wearing pink short shorts and knee-high pink skating boots. Szolkowy is in shiny purple. Yikes. I don’t get it. They may have skated fabulously but just say no to short shorts.

Apparently the judges got past the clothes, however. The pair won the short program competition with a score of 72.30, almost four points ahead of Russians Yuko Kavaguti (she was born in Japan) and Alexander Smirnov.
