Words are just [gol-darn] words. They’re referents, metaphors, if you will, that indicate a particular concept, communicative slippage between sender and receiver notwithstanding. Intent is clutch.

I’m still waiting for somebody to point out why the hecklers shouldn’t get any compensation: because they clearly won the exchange with Michael Richards. No amount of offensiveness on Richards’ part could protect him from the devastating truthfulness of this succinct conclusion:

It’s not funny, that’s why you’re a reject. Never had no shows, never had no movies. Seinfeld, that’s it.
