The news never sleeps, and apparently neither do bloggers. Here are some blogs that have added new opinions to our own.

Ruth Rosen at The Rag Blog cited Megan Daum’s May 20 feminism op-ed piece, saying that Sarah Palin has the right to be called a feminist because, technically, she fits into that category. Rosen counters that Palin is hurting the movement more than helping it -- in her view, Palin alienates liberal feminists who question whether they want to be associated with the reputation the former Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential candidate brings to feminism.

Brian Garst at Conservative Compendium weighed in Ray D. Madoff’s July 6 estate tax op-ed, saying Madoff misrepresents the differences and difficulties suffered by those on either side of the financial gap. Garst also argues that Madoff makes light of the double taxation issue, which, he says, is more commanding than the op-ed suggests.

The corporate blog by cellphone recycler PaceButler mentioned our June 24 editorial in favor of banning plastic grocery bags because of their negative environmental impact. Not surprisingly, the blog supported our view, adding that the grocery bags’ negative effects are more than simply environmental -- they’re also an economic burden because the state spends $100 million annually cleaning them up. (For a contrary view, read this Blowback by Peter Grande, president of Command Packaging, a local manufacturer of plastic bags.)

Finally, John Steele at the Legal Ethics Forum cited our June 8 editorial on the 2008 voter intimidation case involving the Black Panthers, agreeing that there has not been sufficient evidence or explanation that the Party should have been charged with any wrongdoing at all.
